In the Dominion series so far, actions fly mainly during the action phase. Dominion Hinterlands introduces happenings to you or your opponents when you gain cards or buy cards during the buying phase, hence adding another layer of strategies each turn. Dominion Hinterlands, an expansion requiring Dominion or Dominion Intrigue published in end 2011, also has 2 new card types: victory cum reaction card, and treasure cum reaction card.
